Why Use Uninstall Software?
If you're like most PC users, your computer started out quick, but as the years progressed, it began to slow down more and more. One major cause of this is a pileup of old applications and software, even ones you thought you deleted. These files stack up and slow down your system. That's why you need uninstall software to clean up the software remnants that the traditional Add/Remove program leaves behind.
Uninstall software such as Uninstall Tool, Revo Uninstaller Pro and Ashampoo Uninstaller go one step further than the add/remove program that comes with your PC. Using this causes some registry changes and temporary files to be renamed and left behind on your hard drive until they are overwritten by newer files you load onto the system. When you use effective uninstall software, it finds these little pieces of forgotten software and cleans them off your drive, freeing up space and sometimes improving the speed of your computer. For more information on how to improve the speed of your computer, check out our articles on uninstall software.
Uninstall Software: What to Look For
Uninstall software isn't tricky to use, but it does require attention to detail. One strong point of any uninstall software is its ability to completely erase files you have emptied from the trash. That means those wedding photos you accidentally deleted will be permanently removed, so be careful when selecting what files you want to remove. Below are a few hallmark traits to look for when choosing uninstall software.
Uninstall & Clean Features
The best software has the ability to overwrite empty hard disk space to prevent restoration of already-deleted files. This software will simultaneously delete temporary files and clear all internet browsing data as well as the cache. Also, look for software that has hunter mode. This mode gives you flexibility to uninstall applications with just one click or by simply dragging and dropping program icons onto the hunter icon.

IObit Uninstaller:
If you need a program that lets you cleanly and completely uninstall applications, fire up IObit Uninstaller 6. This free utility makes it a breeze to delete apps, including stray files that are often left behind when you use Windows to delete software from your hard drive or SSD. Competing free tools, such as Comodo Programs Manager and Revo Uninstaller, perform similar functions, but IObit Uninstaller bests those rivals with its community-based suggestions and ability to remove annoying Web browser toolbars and plug-ins. In short, if you use a Windows PC, you should download IObit Uninstaller to uninstall applications.
What It Does:
It's simple to do, too. The Windows 10-compatible IObit Uninstaller (also available for Windows 8/7/Vista/XP) has a clean interface that makes navigating the application's three main sections—Programs, Toolbars & Plug-Ins, and Action Center—a breeze. It's also quite visually appealing. Sure, a utility's attractiveness doesn't trump functionality, but it's a welcome bonus.
Uninstalling Applications:
Uninstalling a single application, toolbar, or plug-in is as simple as highlighting a software listing (for example, Symantec Norton Utilities) in the All Programs section and clicking the large, lime-green Uninstall icon. Checking multiple application boxes lets you queue a string of program deletions, which is something that you cannot do in Windows' Programs and Features.
IObit Uninstaller lets you queue up multiple programs, but you must confirm the uninstall for each app before the removal process begins, much as you do with Comodo Programs Manager and Revo Uninstaller. That's a small inconvenience, but after that I discovered that IObit removed Geekbench, Steam, and other applications in a shorter time than Windows' built-in uninstaller. IObit also includes Force Uninstall, a feature that's designed to delete applications when they refuse to be removed in a traditional manner—very handy.
IObit Uninstaller's full 64-bit Windows compatibility means that your PC's 64-bit apps are thoroughly removed, leaving no junk files behind. IObit Uninstaller's been ahead of the curve in this respect for some time now; Revo Uninstaller only recently implemented full 64-bit compatibility.
An Excellent Uninstaller:
IObit Uninstaller 6 is easily the best Windows uninstaller utility I've tested. Despite some minor problems, its 64-bit-app compatibility, browser toolbar and plug-in removal, and well-designed interface make it a winner. It doesn't hurt that it's free, either. Ashampoo Uninstaller, Comodo Programs Manager, and Revo Uninstaller are no slouches
Ashampoo UnInstaller 6:
Updating drivers is vital to keeping your PC in tip-top condition. Sure, tune-up utilities are an important part of the equation, but sometimes you need to make sure that your PC's drivers are current to ensure that hardware and programs run correctly. Fortunately, Ashampoo Driver Update makes the task a breeze. The application highlights out-of-date drivers, downloads their most recent versions, and features tight integration with Windows 10. Despite Driver Updater's many benefits, it falls just a hair short of the award-winning status of Editors' Choice IObit Driver Booster Pro, as I'll explain.
Pricing and Compatibility
Priced at $39.99, Ashampoo Driver Updater is more expensive than IObit Driver Booster Pro and SlimWare Utilities DriverUpdate, two competing driver-update utilities. That price gets you a three-PC license. SlimWare Utilities DriverUpdate, which has a four-tier pricing scheme, also offers a three-PC license for $39.92—a single license is just $29.97. And IObit has a three-PC license for even less than that—just $22.95! If you live in a multi-PC home, IObit's product is an extremely attractive offering.
Ashampoo Driver Updater is compatible with PCs running the Windows 10, 8, and 7 operating systems. In fact, the utility is tightly integrated into Windows 10. It hooks into Action Center, so related alerts slide in and out of view. It's a nice touch that SlimWare Utilities DriverUpdate lacks.
Digging Deep:
When you launch Driver Updater, the software quickly scans your PC for hardware and drivers. When the scan is complete, the application displays processor and RAM information, as well as the number of up-to-date and out-of-date drivers. SlimWare Utilities DriverUpdate and IObit Driver Booster Pro both dug up 44 out-of-date drivers on my work PC; SlimWare Utilities DriverUpdate unearthed 41 issues.
Like SlimWare Utilities DriverUpdate, Ashampoo Driver Update uses color-coded icons to indicate the status of each driver. I quickly understood that green icons represented up-to-date drivers, but I had no idea what the yellow icons represented. Unlike SlimWare Utilities DriverUpdate, Ashampoo Driver Updater doesn't explain the color scheme, so I emailed an Ashampoo representative and learned that the yellow icon represents a driver that has had an update available for less than 365 days. In addition, the red icon shows a driver that's had an update available for more than 365 days.
I further tested the software by intentionally deleting the Realtek High Definition Audio driver. After I rebooted the PC, Driver Updater downloaded a replacement driver—Microsoft's "High Definition Audio Device"—that worked flawlessly when I played back MP3 and WAV files. I deleted several other drivers and Driver Updater found compatible replacements for those, too.
Gets the Job Done:
If you want to keep your drivers up to date, Ashampoo Driver Update is a fine tool for getting the job done. In testing, it found missing and out-of-date drivers, and it features a scheduler, backup and restore capabilities, and Windows 10 integration. Still, Editors' Choice winner IObit Driver Booster is a slightly superior driver updater, offering the best overall bang for the buck.
Revo Uninstaller Pro:
Uninstalling applications using Windows's default program removal tool isn't difficult, but Revo Uninstaller Pro, which costs $39.25 for a single license, offers a more efficient way to delete unwanted software from your PC. Like the free version of the program, Revo Uninstaller Pro lets you thoroughly uninstall programs, permanently delete files tossed into the Recycle Bin, and eliminate junk files. The uninstaller also boasts Windows 10 compatibility, real-time software monitoring, full 64-bit app support, and other features. Some of those features are found in Ashampoo Uninstaller 6, the Editors' Choice for paid uninstall utilities, but that doesn't mean you should overlook Revo Uninstaller Pro. It's quite good.
What You Get With Revo Pro:
Check out our review of the free Revo Uninstaller for the basics (uninstall features, PC tuneup tools), as those features are also included in Revo Uninstaller Pro.
The biggest difference between Revo's free and paid versions is that the Revo Uninstaller Pro version has full 64-bit functionality. (The free Revo Uninstaller only fully removes 32-bit apps.) As a result, you can uninstall 64-bit apps without leaving behind any stray parts. This is important. You see, when an application is uninstalled, the removed software may leave junk files on your PC that can affect system performance. If your PC runs 64-bit Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, or XP, Uninstaller Pro is the Revo version for you.
Premium Cost, Premium Features:
The $39.25 price tag gets you just one license; if you want to use Revo Uninstaller Pro on three PCs, it will cost you $58.86. You can expect to spend nearly a Benjamin with the $98.10 five-license package. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but not quite as expensive as the $59.99 Ashampoo Uninstaller 6.
You get access to command-line uninstall support, an additional scanning feature designed to uproot stray files that were on your PC before you installed Revo Uninstaller. There's also a Logs Database that displays a list of known programs that are compatible with your PC. If you really want to dive into your PC's guts, the upgrade may be worth the cost.
Note: Revo Uninstaller Pro has a rudimentary design that may prove a bit confusing to novices. Ashampoo Uninstaller, on the other hand, has an attractive, easy-to-navigate layout that can even be skinned with new themes.
Comodo Released Comodo Programs Manager [New]:
Comodo, one of the famous security company recently released a new program called “Comodo Programs Manager” which aims to help you to manage programs/software which you have installed on your computer. It is works similar to our default program manager which is available in windows itself but, with the comodo Programs Manager it is easier to user and manger programs compared to our default option.
Comodo Programs Manger:
When I starts installing comodo programs manager first what I feel is its design which looks something similar to Ubuntu OS. It looks similar to that when I’m installing this software.
When you run this software you will see the dashboard as shown in the below image. In that you will get some details about number of programs you have installed in your system, space occupied, number of drivers and services and also it shows information about Windows components and Updates information in the dashboard itself.
omodo programs manager mainly having 3 tabs which is available in the left side. The tabs are Programs, Drivers and Services, Windows Components and Windows Updates. These tabs provides a full information about the small details which is shown in the dashboard.
Programs Tab: In programs tab we find information about the software we have installed on our PC. The one main benefit of Comodo Programs Manager is that, we can uninstall many programs/software at the same time. We do that by clicking Ctrl Key+start selecting programs you want to uninstall. We can also get Repair and Change folder option if the software is supported.
Drivers and Services: In Driver and Services tab we can get the information about drivers which we have installed on our pc. If you don’t know how to uninstall drivers in inbuilt method then this option may helps you. Because we can easily search with search option and uninstall easily.
Windows Components: In this tab we can easily turn on or turn off default windows components. It helps you to disable unused components on windows.
Windows Updates: In windows updates tab we will see the windows updates what we have installed on our computer. We can also uninstall windows updates as other programs.
Totally this comodo programs manager is good for those who don’t know advanced option of default windows. It helps newbie giving description about that particular software what you have selected. You can try once, you may like it.

CCleaner:
Even though CCleaner isn’t strictly an uninstaller software, it’s still a part of this list because it’s just too good. And although there are paid versions of it available, the free version is just as feature loaded.
Probably the most well known system cleaning and optimizing application out there, it packs in a lot of goodies in a really lightweight package. At its core, CCleaner basically deals with removing all kinds of unwanted files, broken registry entries, missing shortcuts etc. from the computer, thus making it faster and bloat-free. However, CCleaner also includes some handy additional tools that make it even more awesome.
And one of those tools is the Uninstall sub-module, which, as the name suggests, lets you not just quickly remove installed applications, but also delete false traces of already deleted files. In addition, CCleaner’s other sub-modules let you find and delete duplicate files, securely delete files, manage startup programs, and do a lot more. So if you’re looking for a pretty rounded uninstaller software that is also more of a PC optimization suite, but don’t want to spend the money that the previously mentioned Ashampoo Uninstaller demands, CCleaner is going to serve you just perfect.
"Tools" is the method by which you Uninstall programs. You do this by highlighting an app icon and clicking "Uninstall." You can also Repair Permissions (when access rights are damaged) and Erase Freespace (which writes data over unused space, preventing prying eyes from digging up deleted files with data recovery software). These options aren't well defined; the function descriptions use obtuse language which may cause confusion among casual users.
The meat of CCleaner is "Cleaner," which lets you scrub the system and get rid of junk files. Clicking "Analyze" causes the app to scan your Mac's hard drive and return a report detailing the number of files found and their sizes. CCleaner returned nearly 4,000 junk files when I ran the program, which the program removed after I clicked "Delete." It was super-simple.
Marginal Performance Improvements:
I tested CCleaner's ability to whip a Mac back into shape by performing three tests—running the Geekbench (a set of benchmarks designed to measure CPU and memory performance), measuring boot times, and transferring a 1.1GB folder of mixed media to external storage—before and after running the software to compare the computer's potency. Each test was run three times and averaged. Before CCleaner scrubbed the system, the 1.83-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Mac Mini with 1GB of RAM, and 80GB hard drive achieved a 2,540 Geekbench score, booted in 56.7 seconds, and transferred the 1.1GB folder in 1 minute and 27 seconds.
There wasn't much system performance enhancement after running CCleaner in terms of GeekBench numbers. In fact, the GeekBench score didn't budge—it remained exactly the same. That said, the boot time decreased to just 49.2 seconds, the file transfer speed dropped to 1 minute and 8 seconds, and the app recovered over 3GB of hard drive space.
Should You Use CCleaner?
If you're looking to give your OS X laptop or desktop a shot of new life, CCleaner is a solid choice. It's free, simple to use, and most importantly, effective. Its GeekBench performance was a bust, and two poorly-defined features may cause you to consult Google for explanations, but don't let that stop you from downloading this OS X utility.
Platform Availability: Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP; Mac OS X 10.5 and later.
Price: Free, Pro versions start at $24.95.
