The 2017 edition of Mobile World Congress is scheduled to be held in Barcelona from February 27 to March 2. According to reports, most expected smartphones like LG G6, Nokia 8, Huawei P10, Moto G5 Plus and BlackBerry Mercury are set to be launched at the mega event. Notably, Nokia’s most popular feature phone Nokia 3310 is also expected to be re-launched at MWC.
Here are the top 6 mobile phones that are expected to launch at the event.
BlackBerry DTEK70
After being invisible in the market for quite a while, BlackBerry is expected to resurface at MWC with the BlackBerry DTEK70, codenamed ‘Mercury’. The DTEK70 will work on an Android 6.0 OS and is expected to run on a Snapdragon 821 chipset with Quad-core processor and Adreno 530 GPU. BlackBerry has decided to retain its traditional keypad, as the DTEK70 will have a capacitive touch 3-row Blackberry Keyboard.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
The BlackBerry KeyOne feels like a return to form. From what I’ve seen, it has all the best features of BlackBerry’s previous Android phones and could be the ideal choice for any buyer on the market for a security focused smartphone.
However, I do have some concerns over its use of a 625 CPU, which is sub-par in this price point and camera setup. Hopefully my concerns will prove false with more thorough testing when the KeyOne hits the market in April.
LG G6
With MWC being rumored as the big launch platform for LG G6 and leaks upping the excitement even more, lots of eyes will be set on this one. The phone is expected to work on Android 7.0 OS. The LG G6 is likely to run on a Quad-core CPU and Adreno 530 GPU. Rumors suggest that the LG G6 will be launched either with the Snapdragon 835, or the Snapdragon 821 since the Snapdragon 835 chipsets are in high demand. Flaunting a 5.7 inch IPS LCD display, the phone is expected to sport a 2880 x 1440 px resolution. The LG G6 will possibly jump to 6 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of internal storage, still allowing up to 256 GB micro SD cards. The dual primary camera setup is expected to have a 16 MP + 16 MP setup, laser auto-focus and a 12 MP front camera. The LG G6 will also drop the modularity for a new sleek glass front and back design according to leaks, along with stereo speakers.

- Android 7.0
- 2x 13-megapixel rear cameras
- Very thin bezel

FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
Ditching the modular design was the correct move by LG. It was handled poorly, miscommunicated and failed miserably. With the G6, LG has a phone that I can see being much more successful.
It’s got the bits I liked from the G5 – basically that ace camera setup – but it finally looks good and the near bezel-free design is quite eye-catching. I really don’t see why not, and if Samsung follows suit I am sure it will become the norm come 2018.
There are still a few niggles that have stopped me calling the LG G6 Phone of the year quite yet. Couldn’t it have waited for the Snapdragon 835? I know a CPU isn’t everything, but it instantly puts the G6 on the back foot.
I’m looking forward to using the G6 more and more over the next few weeks, and I will update this with my thoughts as I go along.
Moto G5 Plus
The Moto G5 is expected to be on its toes in terms of speed, given its Octa-core 2.0 GHz processor and Adreno 506 GPU. Installed with either a Mediatek or a Snapdragon 625 chipset, the device is expected to operate on Android 7.0 OS. The Moto G5 Plus will possibly have a 5.5 inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 px. Speculations suggest that the phone will have a 2GB/3GB RAM, 64 GB internal storage and expandable storage up to 256 GB. Optics may include a 12 MP sensor with dual LED flash as the primary snapper and a 5 MP selfie shooter.
The Moto G5 Plus may launch with a larger battery and a new uni-body metal design. The battery is expected at 3100mAh. The price of the phone is expected to be under Rs. 15000 which will definitely attract a lot of buyers.
KEY FEATURES:
- New aluminum design
- 2,800 mAh battery
- 1.4 GHz octa-core processor
- 13-megapixel camera
- 2GB RAM
- 16GB storage
- Manufacturer: Motorola
- Review Price: to be confirmed
FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
Motorola has consistently impressed with the Moto G range, offering great hardware at a very reasonable price. This year it looks to have done exactly that once again. The Snapdragon 430 is a bit of a letdown, and it remains to be seen how much performance will be impacted. For the most part, though, the Moto G5 keeps everything that made last year's model great, and brings a new design along with a load of new features that should be enough to keep the Moto G series at the top of the mid-range market.
Nokia 8
Nokia is making a comeback, and how! The Nokia 8 is likely to operate on Android 7.0 running on an Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 with an Octa-core processor and Adreno 540 GPU. Nokia 8 is expected to have a 5.7 inch display with 2560 x 1440 px resolution.
The Nokia 8 will possibly be available in two variants, one with 6 GB RAM, 64 GB internal storage and the other with 6 GB RAM, 128 GB internal storage. Both the variants are expected have an expandable storage up to 256 GB. The camera features might give its contemporaries a run for their money as the primary camera is expected to sport a 24 MP PureView sensor along with OIS, phase-detection auto-focus and dual LED flash. The secondary camera, on the other hand will have a 12 MP sensor. The Nokia 8 leaks point towards stereo speakers and a 3.5 mm jack.
Nokia will also launch the Nokia 6 for the global market along with Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 and the big comeback of the timeless Nokia 3310, a feature phone, which is expected to be launched at MWC for Euro 59.
KEY FEATURES:
- 3.5-inch, 640x360 pixel display
- 12-megapixel camera with Xenon flash
- Symbian^3 operating system
- HDMI output
- 3G, WiFi, GPS connectivity
- Manufacturer: Nokia
- Review Price: £355.50
THE GOOD: The Nokia N8 and Symbian 3 offer a better and more enhanced user experience than previous devices. The N8 delivers excellent camera and video quality. The smartphone has solid hardware and offers 3G support for both T-Mobile and AT&T. You get free turn-by-turn navigation via Ovi Maps.
THE BAD: It's expensive. User interface is much improved, but still trails the competition in ease of use. The N8 can be sluggish. You only get a QWERTY keyboard in landscape mode, and there's no user-replaceable battery.
THE BOTTOM LINE: The Nokia N8 excels as a camera phone, and the improvements of Symbian 3 make it one of the company's best smartphones to date. However, it still has its shortcomings and an expensive price tag, making it a hard sell for the North American market.
Huawei P10
The Huawei P10 is expected to be installed with a HiSilicon Kirin 960 chipset with an Octa-core processor and a Mali-G71 MP8 GPU. Expected to sport a 5.2 inch IPS-NEO LCD display with a 2560 x 1440 px resolution. If rumors are to be believed, the Huawei P10 will be available in three variants one with 4 GB RAM with 32 GB internal storage, another with 4 GB RAM with 64 GB internal storage and the third variant with 6 GB RAM, 128 GB internal storage.
The phone is expected to have an expandable storage of 256 GB for all its variants. The Huawei P10 may have 12 MP dual primary cameras and an 8 MP secondary camera. The device is expected to have a 3100mAh non-removable Li-ion battery.

- F/2.2 lens (P10) / F/1.8 (P10 Plus)
- 8MP front camera
- 3,200mAh battery (P10) / 3,750mAh (P10 Plus)
- EMUI 5.1
- 4GB RAM
- Manufacturer: Huawei
- Review Price: to be confirmed
FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
The Huawei P10, at least based on initial impressions, feels like a solid if a little uninspiring update to the P9 blueprint. Yes there are some design changes – I personally always prefer a front fingerprint sensor rather than rear – but there’s not been as great an evolution between models as seen in rivals such as the LG G6 or heavily rumoured changes to the Samsung Galaxy S8.
Still, if the camera performance holds up, there should be a great deal to like about the Huawei P10, especially with the performance improvements from the Kirin 960 chipset. If you're all about photography, it might be worth considering the P10 Plus for the larger aperture lens, too. But there's no getting around those prices, though. It'll be interesting to see if the P10 can live up to the price tag.
Nokia P1
What is better than launching two phones to support your comeback? You read it right. Apart from the Nokia 8, Nokia is expected to release Nokia P1 at the event too. Like the Nokia 8, this smartphone is also expected to run Android v7.0 Nougat on a Snapdragon 835 chipset with an Octa-core processor along with an Adreno 540 GPU. The Nokia P1, however, will have an IPS LCD display of 5.3 inches with a 1920 x 1080 px resolution. According to rumors, the phone will have 6 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage along with up to 256 GB of expandable storage. The primary camera is likely to have a 22.5 MP PureView sensor and the front camera may have an 8 MP sensor. The Nokia P1 is expected to have a non-removable 3500 mAh Li-ion battery with Quick Charge 3.0.
KEY FEATURES:
- 1080p LCD display
- Metal body
- 16-megapixel camera
- Android 7 w/ Google Assistant
- 3GB RAM
- 32GB storage w/ microSD
- Manufacturer: Nokia
- Review Price: to be confirmed
Something that is great though is the display; it’s 5.5-inches with a 1080p resolution and it’s seriously bright. Colours look accurate and there’s enough punch that it doesn’t instantly look drab when compared to an AMOLED panel. Nokia says it has optimised the screen for outdoor use and to try and minimise reflections, which is always a good thing.
when that screen is paired with the Dolby Atmos certified speaker setup that includes a ‘smart amplifier’ for deeper and more immersive bass.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
Nokia’s simple approach is refreshing, and while the 6 isn’t going to revolutionise the mobile space it really does seem like it might be a great option for those on a budget. It looks lovely, has the best version of Android and should have enough power to get things done.
